Ardanaiseig

Ardanaiseig is the quintessential get-away-from-it-all country house escape. It may only be a two-hour drive from Glasgow, but the last bit is down a winding single track road that really tells you that you are heading somewhere very remote, but also somewhere very special too. Built for the Clan Campbell as back as far as 1834, it really feels like time has stood still here: the lavish public spaces peer out over Loch Awe, on which you can take a boat if you can rouse yourself from the sofas in front of the fire; the whisky bar is tempting; and there's a superb restaurant in which you can taste the foraged fruits of the hotel grounds. No two of the antique-laden bedrooms are the same, while the newer Boat Shed is one of Scotland’s most romantic escapes, a purpose-built split-level lochside retreat that is very much made for two.
