CairnGorm Mountain Resort

CairnGorm Mountain CairnGorm Ski Area Aviemore PH22 1RB

CairnGorm is the highest and most popular of the three ski resorts found in the Cairngorms National Park (the others are Glenshee and The Lecht), and it has a reputation for holding onto its white slippery stuff for the longest. It is an all-year resort, offering mountain-biking and hill-walking (including tours) throughout the green season, and lots of great skiing and snowboarding during the winter. The resort has 10 lifts (plus a funicular railway), disgorging skiers and boarders onto 11 green runs, 11 blue, 10 red and three black. The longest run is 3km from top to bottom. It's very family-friendly, and, as well as downhill runs, there are kickers and rails to keep freestylers happy here. You can hire ski and snowboarding equipment on the mountain, but it is limited – best to get it in Aviemore first. The resort is also home to Scotland's only funicular railway, which takes people up to the country's highest restaurant, complete with viewing terrace.
