Charming and affordable B&B and glamping pods right in the heart of things in Aviemore.
Eriskay Craig Na Gower Avenue Aviemore PH22 1RW 01479 810 717
High on the northern fringes of the vast (1,748 sq mi) Cairngorms National Park, Aviemore is a year-round base for outdoors enthusiasts of all persuasions, and the destination of choice for the many of the UK's most dedicated winter sports fans. From kayaking on Loch Morlich to tackling the mighty Munros of Britain's highest, coldest, and snowiest mountain range, this unspoilt landscape is a veritable smorgasbord of epic features waiting to be explored. However, while there's a refreshing lack of exclusivity about Aviemore, accommodation at the resort proper often falls on the pricey side. What a treat then to find Aviemore Glamping – a charming glamping site and B&B.
Located in the shadow of Craigellachie Hill, it's near enough to the slopes to indulge in a spot of après-ski, but a safe distance from the hustle and bustle of the resort. The B&B has three rooms – one double, one twin and one family room – all very comfortably furnished with their own bathrooms, TV and tea/coffeemaking facilities. Outside, there are four ingeniously-designed timber pods that comfortably sleep a couple on the fold-out double. There's an immaculately maintained shower/wet room, and, most importantly, these cosy cabins stay nice and toasty on teeth-chatteringly cold Highland evenings. They're kitted out with everything could need, including bedding, cutlery and utensils, and although there aren't any cooking facilities, you need only nip across the gravel path to join your indoor buddies for a full-on Scottish breakfast, courtesy of hostess Pat. By the way Rufus the resident lurcher is quite a character and always keen to get to know new guests – they even have a self-catering cabin named after him on the other side of town that's also available to rent.
