Best coffee shop on Newland Ave is the original coffee shop along here, launched in the days before java stops sprouted on every street corner. It's big and cosy – the seating downstairs is nearly all made up of squishy sofas – and there are grandstand seats on the terrace outside that fill with the merest hint of Hull sun. While the food menu is straightforward (panini, cakes, toasted bagels), the drinks menu is anything but, with a huge choice of coffee, hot chocolates, teas and smoothies, all made with care and passion. Students and locals pile in at times, so you may have a while to wait until it's your turn at the counter, but it's a small price to pay for the sort of indie coffee shop everyone should be able to find at the end of their street.
