The best collection of British 20th-century art outside London? Well, that’s what they reckon in Leeds, and with a changing roster of exhibitions featuring the likes of Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth (both locals), plus Antony Gormley, Francis Bacon, Bridget Riley and others, you can see their point. Although paintings and sculpture dominate, there’s also a keen interest in digital, DVD and other new media art, so current exhibitions are always worth checking out. Add the rather wonderfully restored Victorian Tiled Hall and its genteel café, and this is an artistic tour-de-force you won’t want to miss.
