The George & Dragon Inn enjoys a great location tucked away in this lovely village. It's within easy reach of Arundel and its castle, and is also a great focus for walkers exploring the South Downs national park. It's an upmarket sort of joint; the food is distinctive – sort of pubby ingredients (steaks, chicken, lamb) but cooked in such a way that there's always a surprise on the menu: think duck breast with smoked banana puree and red cabbage or loin of lamb with mint potato liquid, pine nuts and caramelised aubergine. Popular sides include the aforementioned potato liquid, truffled bacon cabbage and purple potato gratin. With this level of inventiveness, you're definitely not in Kansas anymore, and wouldn't expect it to be cheap, but the fact is it somehow works, and the pub is lovely, very traditional apart from the food, with great service and serving real ales from the nearby Arundel brewery.
