Tucked away under the Burlington Hotel, the Bacchus Bar is not a place you’d necessarily stumble across when negotiating your way down the bustling shop-lined New Street. Yet, despite its somewhat clandestine location beneath the Burlington Arcade, this dimly-lit bar has amassed a loyal following. And it doesn’t take too long to see why. With dark woods, stone archways, wrought-iron fixtures and oil paintings with gilded frames all conspiring to give it a decadent Byronesque vibe, there’s an air of sumptuous grandeur that will see you sinking back into one of the many high-backed chairs to sample a hearty claret as dark and rich as the decor. They also do decent food.
