Arguably the most picturesque (and photographed) of all the Shakespeare-related houses in Stratford, Ann Hathaway's Cottage is the former family home of Shakespeare’s wife. A beautiful thatched house sitting within well tended gardens, it comes into its own in the spring and summer months when the gardens are awash with colour – it’s breathtakingly pretty. Inside, the cottage contains many original pieces of furniture, as well as pretty gardens and a small arboretum showcasing many of the trees mentioned in Shakespeare’s work. The house is located in Shottery, about a mile outside Stratford but there is a footpath from the town which brings you out at a sweet little tea room just across the road from the house.
