Come into Broadway down Fish Hill, on the A44 from Chippy or Oxford, and prepare to have your breath taken away. This hairpin-bender of a road falls off the famous Cotswold Escarpment, giving way to one of the UK's most the most stunning views, stretching to the Malverns and beyond. Better yet, tackle it at sunset on a clear day. Broadway is, in its way, just as memorable. It's the quintessential Cotswolds small town – more English, more posh, more quietly, sedately beautiful than anywhere for miles around. There’s really just one main street (you can park on it for short periods in the quiet season – otherwise follow signs to one of the official carparks), dotted with independent shops of all kinds, two rather smart hotels – The Broadway and Lygon Arms – and a cute little alleyway lined with boutiques selling upmarket yarn, sweeties, shoes and the like. There’s even an organic hairdresser.
