YHA Holmbury St Mary YHA
UK England South East England Surrey Leith Hill
0845 371 9323 Dorking Surrey RH5 6NW
Situated in the heart of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this hostel feels extraordinarily bucolic, despite being so close to London, which is less than an hour away by train to nearby Dorking. It's a homely place, the perfect woodland retreat, with 47 beds and a great atmosphere, partly because of its location in the middle of some 4000 acres of beautiful woodland countryside. Facilities include a licensed bar, large dining room, lounge, cycle hire and storage, and if you don't fancy the hostel you can camp in the grounds, plus there are two well-appointed bell tents for glamping fans. Whatever sort of accommodation you plump for, there is loads to do in the surrounding area – the Edwardian stately home of Polesden Lacey, now owned by the National Trust, Box Hill, where you can walk or cycle to your heart's content – and indeed any number of other walking options throughout the Surrey Hills. Get yourself an OS map and explore – the capital could be a million miles away.
