The Sole Bay Fish Co is in fact four semi-derelict fisherman’s shacks knocked together, which still sells the daily catch of wet fish and shellfish that Darren brings in on Our Caroll II. But for three hours in the middle of the day, you can nab one of eight tables and order from a sublime selection of lobster and crab platters. Both bread and wine are on a BYO basis, though Caroll will happily supply glasses so that you can linger either at the single table at the front watching the comings-and-goings of the harbour or in the back with a view over the fields to Southwold. If you are lucky enough to be there at fish-feeding time, you can experience the excitement of Darren feeding the lobster, crabs and fish in his giant aquarium.
