Lovely pub, great restaurant and comfortable rooms in a village that's handily placed for all the delights of the Suffolk coast and countryside.
The Street Westleton Suffolk IP17 3AD 01728 648 777
This pub-restaurant has 34 en-suite bedrooms, either in the main building or dotted about the various converted barns outside. They’re all beautifully finished, and are quirkily and cheekily classified as “good”, “better”, and “best” – ratings which betray the confidence the owners here have in the quality what they're offering. They're right to be smug: even the cheapest rooms have been recently refurbished, with TV, free wifi (throughout) and well-fitted bathrooms. Indeed the whole place is very comfortable indeed, yet retains a cosy charm that reminds you it's a converted pub – just what Wills and Kate were looking for when the stayed here in the summer of 2012 after attending a nearby wedding and firmly put the Crown on the map. Before you ask, they stayed in the Swan room, naturally one of the ''best" rooms, compete with four-poster, and enjoyed an excellent Full English in the garden room the next morning. The restaurant, too, is excellent.
