Merchant Adventurers Hall
Fossgate York YO1 9XD
The leafy gardens of the Merchant Adventurers Hall make a very peaceful spot for a picnic, but it’s also worth popping into the timbered hall itself, once the meeting point for York’s wealthy merchants. The building is very unusual in that it still has the three separate elements characteristic of a medieval guild – the Great Hall (now filled with antique furniture, a large amount of silver and some interesting photographs dating from 1850), the Undercroft, which was a sort of hospital for the ill and infirm, and the Chapel.
