A great place to spend a country weekend, particularly for walkers, in one of North Yorkshire's nicest and best located small towns.
Helmsley North Yorkshire YO62 5DE 01439 770 172
There's perhaps no better place to base yourself to make the most of the beautiful North York Moors than Helmsley, which is not only home to the headquarters of the National Park authority but also hosts a number of good places to drink, eat and stay, including this very welcoming B&B, tucked away down a quiet street on the edge of town. It has three very nicely decorated double bedrooms, furnished with big brass bedsteads, antique country furniture and high-spec duvets and luxury cotton sheets. Each room also has a digital radio, flatscreen Freeview TVs, Ipod docking stations and free wifi, plus there are coffee-and tea-making facilities, a fridge with real milk and wonderful home-baked biscuits and cakes in your room to make you feel right at home as soon as you arrive. Two of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms while the other has its own private bathroom across the hall. Their sumptuous Full English breakfast is a perfect prelude for striking off across the moors – plus Jane and Jeremy have lived here for years and know all the best places. All in all a great place to spend a country weekend, in one of North Yorkshire's most appealing and best located small towns.
