A boutique shot in the arm for Harrogate, with lovely rooms and great service
19 West Park Harrogate HG1 1BJ 01423 524 471
With a grandstand location overlooking The Stray, the boutique West Park has a lot going for it from the start, but its confident urban style lifts steady old Harrogate up another notch or two. There's a lot of sophistication going on here, from buzzing bar and brasserie downstairs to 25 rooms and suites that blend heritage colours and muted earth tones with an easygoing contemporary design. Spacious, attractive bathrooms come with L'Occitane toiletries, the beds are big and comfortable (with Harrogate spring water right to hand), and nice designer touches proliferate – from statement linen and lighting to a Krups espresso machine. Insist on being at the front and you get the best-in-town view, with the hotel just seconds from the green spaces of The Stray and minutes from the town centre. Service throughout is slick, friendly and efficient – which is basically the signature style of the hotel's parent Provenance Inns group. They're known for their classy Yorkshire country inns, but here they've imported much of the same formula into the heart of Harrogate and it works a treat.
