Bank House Restaurant

We've been fans of this King's Lynn boutique hotel for some years now, and our enthusiasm has long extended to its excellent restaurant, whose lights act as an evening beacon to hungry quay-strolling locals, and rightly so: the food is always great and the service friendly and personable, and you get to eat in their lovely corner River Room restaurant overlooking the town's impressive waterfront – preferably after having a drink in their funky, artfully decorated bar or in summer their lovely west-facing terrace.Basically it's a unique building, and worth visiting for just that, but it's a good place to eat too, with classic brasserie and more high-end dishes on an imaginative, regularly changing all-day menu; starters might include gravadlax or five-spice pork terrine, mains always include a burger, steak and fish-and-chips but you will also see other goodies like sea trout fillet, chargrilled pork t-bone or spelt risotto, and the short menu of desserts is always varied and yummy. The 'Hanseatic' seafood sharing platter' is also pretty good – either to share or just to scoff to yourself. They do a great breakfast, a refined and popular afternoon tea and also offer an interesting take on the traditional carvery on Sundays – carve-your-own roasts whereby you preorder a joint of meat (priced according to size) and it's served at your table for you to carve with bowls of roast potatoes, vegetables and all the trimmings. As we've said, the dining and bar are both great but they also have a Board Room for private dining and an atmospheric medieval cellar which they tend to open up for private parties (though they might let you take a peek if you ask nicely). There's also a Billiards Room which sometimes gets opened up for a game after dinner, so you can finish off your evening in style!
