Great food and comfy rooms in a North Norfolk coastal location that can't really be bettered.

The White Horse

Main Road Brancaster Staithe Norfolk PE31 8BY 01485 210 262

We say

A combined restaurant, pub and hotel, The White Horse backs straight onto the marshes, lagoons and creeks of the coast, with seven airy, attractively decorated, en-suite guest rooms in the main building, and eight more 'garden rooms' at the back with grass roofs to blend with the marshes beyond – plus their own terraces. All of the rooms are spacious and contemporary, with a blue-green decor inspired by the seascape beyond. Some have sea views and the top-notch ‘Room at the Top’ is split over two levels and has its own viewing telescope to take in the best views of the coastline. Whether you stay in the main building or the garden rooms, all the rooms have large comfy beds, Freeview TVs, digital radios and wifi) and tea and coffee-making facilities. The White Horse also have a great selection of guest ales at their bar including some from their very own Brancaster Brewery.

It's a short stroll down to pick up the Norfolk Coastal Path at the bottom of the garden, making the White Horse an ideal location for walkers, cyclists or indeed anyone who wants to make the most of this unique location – and indeed their dogs, who are allowed in the garden rooms which have thoughtfully provided wooden-floored entrance halls for dog beds and muddy boots. As for the restaurant, there's perhaps no better place to return to after a long day's exploring the coast path. And if you're looking for somewhere else to stay down the Norfolk coast it's worth knowing that the same family own the excellent King's Head at Letheringsett near Holt, as well as The Farmhouse at Redcoats and Fox at Willian in Hertfordshire.
