Hackney’s newest music venue is right at the top of the beautifully renovated Picturehouse, with arched windows looking down to the town hall. The elongated space has a long bar and a small stage, and plays host to an imaginative programme of folk, jazz, reggae, Latin and African music. There’s also comedy on the bill, plus open mic nights, DJs and a film quiz. The admission price is refreshingly low – meaning you can take a punt on a band you’ve never heard of – and the vibe is welcoming. Combine a live event with a movie and a meal in the bar/restaurant downstairs for a great night out in Hackney.
