The Dove - Hammersmith
19 Upper Mall Hammersmith London W6 9TA
We like the Dove. With a bar room so small it fits in to the Guinness Book of Records, and a history dating back to the late eighteenth century, it's an obvious spot for a pint by the river, and of course it's been here donkeys' years so you get plenty of that authentic and convivial pub atmosphere. Tucked in between a narrow alley and the Thames, with an outside terrace looking over the water, it also offers a selection of British pub food classics – fish and chips, steak and stilton pie, brisket of beef – along with more new-fangled tasting platters to share, all ranging from £10 and up for a main, topped off with locally brewed ales from the nearby Fullers brewery. The charm of the Dove lies in its size – it could well be a pub made for hobbits. On popular days like Sundays - particularly when the sun is shining - it is packed with locals and riverside promenaders. Make sure you come early or book a table if you’re feeling like a Sunday roast.
