A pleasant, traditional pub on the road towards Seasalter – it also has a well-regarded restaurant serving well-executed British pub standards including steak and ale pie, cod and chips or a tasty lamb’s liver with mash in addition to a few more exotic choices (sea bass with chilli, garlic and ginger; Thai red chicken curry). In the garden, there’s a small children’s playground and wonderful views down to the beach and right across the estuary to Sheppey, with Southend on the horizon. It’s a pleasant walk up here from town too, west along the beach and then over the second railway bridge.
