Vanessa Delicatessen & Café

Vanessa's is a terrific deli and café in the centre of Beverley, with a really good-looking selection of food and drink, mostly sourced from small artisan producers. That means lots of quality stuff from East Yorkshire in particular – such as craft beers from Great Newsome Farm, Staal Smokehouse duck and chicken, and everything else from handmade chocolates to farmhouse muesli. The café upstairs (best to book for lunch) is a good vantage-point over the town, with a menu that runs from breakfast to afternoon tea. The sharing platters are a nice idea – Spanish or Yorkshire, according to taste – and the service is excellent, by staff who know their stuff and are genuinely jolly and welcoming.
