Cliff railway

Southbourne Overcliff Drive Bournemouth Beach

There are three cliff railways dotted along Bournemouth Beach: the West and the East cliff lifts were built in 1918 in the centre of town, while the Fisherman’s Walk Railway was added in 1935 in the eastern suburb of Southbourne. Clanking up and down the cliff they provide wonderful views along the coast and are great fun to ride – particularly if you are heading back up the steep cliff after a hard day playing on the beach.
