This handsome stone former railway station is brilliantly placed by the fabulous Monsal Trail (and there's bike hire next door), so why not grab a hearty breakfast here before striking out? The choice is good, ranging from bagels to the Full English, and if you're not the cycling kind you can just kick back with a wholesome lunch (Hancock's Pork Pie with Ibbotson's Pickled Onions is a personal fave). Lounge on the lovely sun terrace on a good day - or if it's nippy, inside the elegant old building. Slouch with the papers all day if you want, no one seems to mind. And there's a brilliant bookshop (lots of train-related stuff and a great cookery book section), gifts and crafts as well as work for sale by local artists. A really special spot.
