4 Crossgate Durham DH1 4PS 0191 386 8852
A sweet little white-washed B&B on a cobbled street with views – naturally! – reaching over to the castle. Rooms have had a recent refurb and are looking spick and span - they have all got either king-sized or twin beds, and there's a delightful courtyard garden where you can relax with a cup of tea and a biscuit. The owners are super-friendly and are willing to arm you with plenty of info on the city, with everything basically just a short stroll away
