The Old Lifeboat House Wharf Road St Ives TR26 1LF 01736 797 222
With its modern, glass facade, you wouldn’t guess that Alba was once the old lifeboat house. Now sitting next to the new lifeboat station, bang on the harbour-front, Alba not only boasts a front-row view of St Ives Bay (bag a seat upstairs to enjoy the views), it's long been one of St Ives' most highly acclaimed restaurants. A consistent name in the Good Food Guide and Michelin guide, Alba is lauded for its modern British dishes (think line-caught fish, locally reared meats, sticky toffee pudding), smart decor and efficient waiting staff. Of course the view is always a winner too, and if you get seated downstairs you can peer into the kitchen and see the chefs at work, or look out onto the boats and the busy seaside street.
excellent food (with excellent ethical credentials), nice decor, awesome views, courteous staff, great wine/drinks menu, tremendous desserts..... deliciousness for all of your senses...
Amazing seafood, and surprisingly good meat dishes made all the better for the fabulous views over the harbour. A little cramped when it's full, but worth it for the dessert menu alone. Book ahead to request a window seat to make the most of the scenery.
You can sit and watch the world go by in this modern eatery with an impressive facade, which sits right on the waterfront, with a constant stream of tourists, fishermen turned tour-guides, and the occasional local strolling in the harbour in front of you, to keep you occupied as you eat. The food is great, but the views are the best thing about this restaurant.
