Six farm-based cottages that are a real home-from-home in a beautiful south Cornwall location.

With a beautiful location set among the green rolling hills of southern Cornwall, just outside St Austell, we can't think of too many better places to stay than Poltarrow Farm – owned and run by the Nancarrow family, who have been welcoming guests here for over thirty years, both on a B&B basis in the farmhouse or in six well-appointed self-catering holiday cottages, dotted around the 45 acres of countryside that make up the farm. Complete with fields and meadows, woodland, a fishing lake and duck pond, it's a gloriously self-contained rural location, and the Nancarrow family have also added a decent-sized indoor pool, a sports barn, featuring table tennis and badminton, pool and short mat bowls, and a soft play barn for smaller guests, who are also encouraged to join the owners' daughter help feed the animals each mornings and generally get involved in the life of the farm. There's also a farm trail, which leads around the entire farm and gives you a chance to get up close and personal to some of the wildlife, among them resident ducks, heron and buzzards. Really, you never need leave – and indeed you might not want to!
The Nancarrows certainly seem to have thought of everything possible to make their guests comfortable. The cottages themselves are beautifully furnished and equipped, and range from a one-bedroom cottage that's perfect for a couple to 2- and 3-bedroom cottages for families or larger groups. All of them have spacious living rooms, stylish bathrooms, modern fitted kitchens, and tastefully decorated bedrooms with big comfy beds; they also all have free wifi, central heating and open fires (with unlimited logs on hand). They all accept dogs and the family will also add a cot if needed, along with baby monitors, sterilisers and all the the paraphernalia you need for a young baby, including a pushchair! A welcome pack containing both treats and essentials is provided on arrival, and you can even have a complimentary newspaper delivered if you want – giving you yet another reason not to leave!
That, however, would be a mistake, and the family are on hand to offer advice on what to see and do in the surrounding region. The farm is conveniently close to the sea but is also just a short distance from some of the county's other major attractions – both the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are just a short drive away, as is the picturesque village of Mevagissey, while Fowey and St Mawes are less than half an hour up the coast. There's even a nice pub, The Polgooth Inn, within walking distance, just across the A390. All in all, it's an extremely family-friendly place to stay in a beautiful part of Cornwall. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, it's also pretty popular. What are you waiting for?
