Walk the Garrison

A gentle hour’s walk ideal for a pre-dinner or early morning stroll, this route takes you around the Garrison peninsula on the south-west corner of St Mary’s. Pass through the Garrison gateway at the harbour-end of Hugh Town and follow the footpath that hugs the coastline – passing the Store House Battery, the canon at King Charles’ Battery and the fortress of Star Castle Hotel. Take a breather and admire the stupendous views from the island’s most westerly point, marked by Steval Point Battery, before winding past a series of Batteries and along a wooded path back to Porthcressa Beach behind the town.
