The 21-year-old Sam’s Bistro in Fowey town is something of an institution. However, although it may share the name and ambience as this – the newer Sam's on the Beach – it doesn’t have the views and sand-side location. Down on the small but lovely Polkerris beach, in the old lifeboat house, Sam's on the Beach is comfortable, light and airy, and the food is top notch, with great seafood, pasta and wood-oven pizzas. Overlooking Polkerris harbour and the whole of St Austell Bay beyond, this is an eatery that has tastefully put the old RNLI station back on the map. The boathouse, once at the heart of the local community, is now a top place in Fowey to enjoy tasty food and watch the sunset. Bliss.
