  • 49 Rooms & 7 Cottages
  • Luxury Country Hotel
A beautifully situated, very well-equipped South Cornwall hotel, spa and resort

Set on a splendid private estate of lawns, mature woodland and a private nine-hole golf course above the lovely Helford River, this isn't simply an engagingly traditional country house hotel. With a huge swimming pool and an intimate spa, it's also the perfect choice for families – both nuclear and multi-generational.

We love the way you can choose between sitting by an open fire, in the conservatory or even on an outdoor terrace; and the variety of public spaces (several lounges, a cocktail bar and a snooker room) means there's plenty of room for everyone, even on a wet day. We also adore the huge pool, which is another great place to while away a wet afternoon; it also has an open fire and sauna, as well as a little terrace with a hot tub.

If that's not your thing, head to the small yet cosy spa, where you can indulge in a variety of packages, ELEMIS facials, and holistic and beauty treatments – an oasis where you can truly unwind and relax. The dedicated team prides itself on the personal touch – understanding each individual is unique, they take the time to conduct one-on-one consultations, ensuring guests receive the very best treatment, tailored to their needs.

The hotel offers 'Standard' bedrooms with a traditional feel, and 'Signature' rooms that have been updated in a more contemporary country house hotel style, with lush bathrooms and walk-in showers. If you really want to push the boat out, opt for a spacious suite, complete with garden and golf course views. Breakfasts are abundant and award-winning, with hot dishes cooked to order, and lunch and dinner can be either a formal occasion in the restaurant, or a more casual one in the cocktail bar. There's also a children’s tea, daily at 5.30pm.

In short, this is a hotel with facilities galore that enjoys a special South Cornwall location not far from Falmouth, at the end of the scenic estuary of the Helford River. It's a lovely place for both romantic couples and families, and also has a number of self-catering cottages and holiday homes available.

Facilities

Budock Vean is an idyllic place to really get away from it all. There's lots to do on site and in the immediate area if you want to be busy, but equally it's fine to just sit in the lounge, drink coffee and read a book or pamper yourself in the spa. We think we offer a perfect escape from day to day life. Come and discover us for yourself soon.

Suitable For

We love enjoying a cream tea on the sun trap terrace where you'll often be joined by a friendly robin fond of a few scone crumbs. It's a great spot for lunches with friends where you can enjoy the view across the golf course greens and down to the garden.

Over half the bedrooms have been completely updated to form the Signature range and have views over the golf course and gardens. The Signature Suite is spacious with an en-suite bedroom, lounge with sofa bed and large bathroom with separate shower.

You can order a picnic and wander through our garden down to the river and enjoy lunch looking out at the boats on the water – or hop on one of our regular boat trips to explore the river aboard the 'HannahMolly'. It's a great way to see the stunning beauty of this part of Cornwall.

Nearby

The Helford is a wonderfully rural part of Cornwall and very connected to the river. Even in the height of summer it still feels quiet and unrushed. The pace of life ebbs and flows with the tide. Just 6 miles and a 15-minute drive from Falmouth you can be in the hustle and bustle of this busy harbour town and all it has to offer, but then meander back through the country lanes to the tranquility of the Budock Vean for birdsong and the rustle of the breeze in the trees. It's a great place to relax, unwind and recharge your batteries.

Food & Drink

There's lots of lovely places within a 10-minute drive or a short walk. The picturesque Ferryboat Inn is just down the road, the cafe and tea rooms at Trebah and Glendurgan gardens are also 10 minutes along the road and accessible without having to purchase a garden ticket. A little further out is The Waymarker cafe towards the village of Constantine and the Cove Restaurant at Maenporth beach. Again, just 10 minutes away in the car.

But with a varied lunch menu and an evening dinner menu that changes daily to reflect our chef's use of the best local produce – you can always just stay here!

Open

Open all year.

Pricing

Prices vary according to the season: Standard double rooms with breakfast cost £84–£138 per person per night and Signature rooms from £117–£207. Suites cost an additional £70 on the Signature tariff. Stay 6 nights or more and the prices drop further. Book dinner in advance for £35 instead of £55 for four courses and coffee.

The Owner Says

We like to think Budock Vean is a bit of a hidden gem. Tucked away by the Helford River it's an oasis of peace and quiet. If you're searching for somewhere to get away from it all then this is the place. You'll feel you've left the hustle and bustle of everyday life far behind. But there's a wealth of things to do here if want to – golf, swimming, spa treatments, tennis, croquet on the lawn, coastal walks, stunning gardens to explore, kayaking on the river or taking a boat trip to explore Frenchman's Creek (which inspired the story by Daphne du Maurier). To explore another part of Cornwall that's well off the beaten track just catch the foot ferry across the river to Helford Village, Gillan Creek and Manaccan. But then again you might just want to curl up in the lounge by the fire with a good book and do nothing!

Getting There

Follow the A39 or A390 to Truro, and from there continue on the A39 to Falmouth. About 4 miles before you get to Falmouth, on the outskirts of Penryn, you will see brown tourist signs to Glendurgan and Trebah gardens; follow these through the village of Mawnan Smith, taking the right-hand fork at the Red Lion pub, and continue past Glendurgan and Trebah Gardens. After a further half a mile, around a sharp bend to the right, is the entrance to the hotel.
