The best of art-house, crossover and quality Hollywood blockbusters are the mainstay of the town’s leading repertory cinema. The schedule is cleared each September for the Cambridge Film Festival, over 30 years young and still showcasing emerging talent and cutting-edge independent international film-making. More recently the Arts Picture House has joined up with an array of London theatres to stream live performances of big stage productions. So if you want a little West End theatre but without the journey to London, it's worth looking at the listings for what's on. The pleasant atmosphere is topped off by nice touches, such as the range of fresh snacks available and the fact you're allowed to take a glass of beer or wine into the film with you. Always a winner!
