Could there be a more romantic place to get married than Portmeirion

The creation of one man back in the 1920s, and a popular resort ever since, this village on the coast of north Wales is about as close as you can get to the perfect wedding venue as you could imagine. First of all it's tremendously romantic, a mock-Italianate village – said by some to have been inspired by Portofino on the Italian Riviera – full of tiny squares, inspiring vistas and most importantly architecture that is designed to be as elegant as possible. Second, it's got lots of places to stay, including two hotels, one of which you can hire for for your exclusive use, together with a range of self-catering cottages, so even the biggest wedding parties can be catered for. Third, they have tons of experience – in fact they've been hosting weddings here since 1926 so they know what they're doing.

The village has four places licensed for civil ceremonies, and the one you choose will depend on the number of guests at your wedding. They host small, intimate ceremonies in the so-called Mirror Room in the resort's main hotel, which has floor-to-ceiling windows looking over the Dywyrd estuary; at the other end of the scale there's the oak-panelled Tudor and Hercules Rooms in the village's Town Hall, which can hold up to 45 and 100 guests respectively. If you have opted to take over the Castell Deudraeth Hotel, then you can use the Ricardo Pearce suite, which has beautiful views of both the gardens and the estuary and its own private balcony.

We reckon the prices are pretty reasonable considering the location, and you can choose from several packages depending on your priorities and the number of people you are catering for. But the main thing is you can talk through what you would like with the people at Portmeirion so that your day can be really special. Now, what are you waiting for? If you've already popped the question, then it's time to get on the phone!
